One of the most difficult situations faced by newly made parents is traveling with a newborn. New born babies especially need an infant car seat, preferably one which has EPS lining and comes with a 5-point harness system to travel in vehicles. Some infant seats come with separate removable infant head and body support to provide a better fit to smaller babies.
b) Convertible seat: These seats can be made to face rearward or forward and are best fitted for babies of 20 to 40 pounds. The American Academy of Pediatrics advice to parents is to keep your child facing backwards till he is one year or has crossed the manufacturer's limit of weight and height. These seats are perfect if you have to follow the instructions as you can easily convert the seat into a forward facing seat.
Infant only seats are small rear facing seats that often times come with handles so they can be used to carry baby outside the car. Some infant seats come as a travel system and the seat itself is a part of a stroller. Infant seats can come with a base that is installed one time allowing the carrier to simply snap into the base and snap out. This is a huge time saver compared to having to actually install the seat each time you use it. Typically infant car seats are for children under 30 pounds. Read the manufacturer's label for details.
